|Wang Yi Holds Telephone Talks with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov of Russia|
In the evening of December 13, 2013, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held telephone talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. They talked about further developing China-Russia relations and high-level exchanges between the two countries next year.
They also discussed the current situation in Syria and of the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue.
Wang Yi said that China and Russia have so far maintained close communications on Syria issue, and both adhere to their objective and fair stand, promoting the process of political solution. It has been confirmed that the second Geneva meeting on Syria issue will be held in late January next year. China is willing to strengthen coordination with Russia, together to push for the start of the meeting and keep it going on.
Wang Yi said that China is willing to continue to actively participate in the destruction of chemical weapons in Syria, and is willing to work with relevant parties, including Russia, to make the destruction work go safely and smoothly.
Sergei Lavrov briefed Russia's view on the situation and the consideration for the next step. He stressed that Russia is willing to work with China to strengthen communication and cooperation.
The two sides also agreed to continue the commitment to restarting the Six-Party Talks on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue.
