2013-12-16

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hong Lei announces:

At the invitation of State Councillor Yang Jiechi, Hor Namhong, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, will come to Beijing in early January, 2014 to co-chair with State Councillor Yang Jiechi the First Meeting of China-Cambodia Inter-governmental Coordination Committee.

Chinese and Cambodian leaders agreed in April this year to set up the Inter-governmental Coordination Committee, which aims to press ahead with bilateral cooperation across the board and deal with major issues in cooperation in a coordinated way. The Committee is under the chairmanship of Chinese State Councillor Yang Jiechi and Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Hor Namhong. It brings together heads of over ten government sectors from each side to hold meetings on a yearly rotating basis.

At present, the China-Cambodia relationship enjoys a sound momentum of growth. Leaders of the two countries met each other several times this year and reached important consensus on deepening China-Cambodia friendship. Both agree to strengthen coordination, expand all-round and multi-level exchanges and cooperation between different departments and work to increase the output of comprehensive strategic cooperation between the two countries. At the first meeting of the Coordination Committee in early January next year, the two sides will jointly make plans for the growth of China-Cambodia relationship in the next phase and discuss the guidelines and specific ways to advance cooperation in various fields. This meeting is expected to play a positive role in deepening China-Cambodia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership of Cooperation under the new circumstances.
